Do we have a Governor State Bank right now? It is now over one and a half month that Syed Saleem Raza resigned from Governorship of the State Bank of Pakistan. I want to know why federal government has been unable to find a suitable person to head this most important state institution responsible for implementation of economic policy and also the regulatory authority of banks in the country. There must be many outstanding cases related to prudential matters piled up in the absence of a permanent Governor of the central bank. And there are other matters pending too. For instance, the staff of State Bank at its subsidiary corporations are not getting the 50% increase in salaries federal government had announced in the budget just because Governors signatures have not been put on the dotted line. The President and Prime Minister should find time to pay attention to this matter of national importance. -ENGR. S.T. HUSSAIN, Lahore, July 6.
