LAHORE Pakistan Cricket Boards Chief Operating Officer Wasim Bari is struggling to win back the confidence of PCB chairman Ijaz Butt as relations between the two officials are reported to be tense at the moment. Bari, who joined the PCB as Director Human Resource and Administration soon after Ijaz took the charge as chairman in Oct 2008, was later promoted to COO in place of Saleem Altaf, who had fallen out of favour. Reports quoting sources say that the PCB chief was not happy with Bari for not implementing his orders promptly. Nearly a year-old orders of the chairman are lying pending with Bari while his recent move to allot a contract to a certain construction company for building a cricket academy in Karachi without taking the chairman into confidence has not gone down well with Ijaz, it said. They further said that one particular journalist was obliged through the contract, which made the chairman extremely unhappy. Bari, sources said, claims that whatever he had done as the COO was in the best interest of the PCB and in line with the constitution. According to reports, the former keeper had also made desperate attempts to meet some close friends and relatives of Ijaz Butt in order to make things work. It is not clear, however, if any of those close relatives or friends had talked to the PCB chief since the chairman has been away from home for the last 15 days due to overseas engagements. Reports said that the PCB chairman could take a final decision about Bari in the forthcoming Governing Board meeting which is scheduled to be held here on Wednesday. Though the agenda of the meeting is to approve the financial budget of the PCB for the next fiscal year, the chairman may raise Baris issue in the meeting to get the consent of the GB members prior to a final decision.
