A recent meeting of high-level officials presided by Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, decided to activate National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) immediately to curb growing terrorism in the country. This is a great step forward. A dedicated authority to check the spread of evil of terrorism was direly needed so that terrorists and suspects could be hunted down with ruthless efficiency. NACTA should act as a bridge between the government, security forces, ulema and the general public. This would greatly reduce the chances of sectarian violence which the terrorists apparently wish to initiate. This authority can act like a hub of information for the rest of our security institutions and even the foreign countries involved in fighting this menace in this region. It can become the centre for information-sharing among all stakeholders of the war on terror.
