ISLAMABAD PML-N on Tuesday staged walkout from the proceedings of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice against the government for not presenting the report of National Accountability Commission (NAC) Bill in the committee. Besides, the PML-N members of the committee also questioned the appointment of Masood Chishti as Secretary Law and Justice and termed it violation of Civil Servants Act. The meeting of the committee was presided by the Chairperson National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice Nasim Akhtar Chaudhry. During the meeting, PML-N MNA Zahid Hamid said despite several requisitions by his party, the copies of the report of NAC have not been provided to the committee. It is a serious matter. The government should not hesitate to present it in the committee, Zahid said while leaving the committee room with his party mates to record PML-N protest. Meanwhile, PPP legislator Ejaz virk said a serving judge should not be appointed as chairman of the National Accountability Commission. Later, the government assured that the report of NAC bill would be presented in the committee during the next meeting. Earlier, Anusha Rehman of PML-N raised the question whether the appointment of Masood Chishti as secretary Law and Justice was in accordance with the Civil Servant Act or not. She was of the view that section 9 (1-B) of Civil Service Act that was promulgated in 2002 says that Secretary Law and Justice must be a Civil Servant or a bureaucrat. However, Chairperson Law and Justice Committee and even the Secretary Law did not responded to the question. The Standing Committee however approved Islamabad Consumer Protection Bill 2010, which empowers a magistrate to impose fine and other sentences on the spot against those who found involve in hoarding and profiteering etc.
