ISLAMABAD (APP) - Senate Standing Committee on Railways Tuesday termed lease of Railways land in Rawalpindi not on merit and directed the department to cancel the lease, take action against the responsible and present report before the committee. A press release issued here said, the Meeting of the Standing Committee on Railways was held here under the Chairmanship of Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb discussed the Sub-Committees report regarding leasing of railway land at Bank Road, Rawalpindi which resulted in huge financial loss. The Committee further advised that in future Railway should make joint venture on Railway land instead of leasing /selling of land. The Committee constituted a 5 members Sub-Committee which will look in to all deals of Railways, made during the past 10 years. The Committee also visited Karachi Cantt Railway station and Railway Loco Shed workshop. The Committee was informed that daily some twenty thousands passengers travel to and from Karachi side and the daily revenue of the Karachi Cantt station is about Rs five million. The Committee advised that maximum facilities may be provided to the passengers and punctuality of trains may be ensured and at all cost. The Committee further advised that the facility of cool water and wash rooms may be increased for labour at workshop. Besides the Railway authorities should visit Railway Installations from time to time for solving problems. The meeting was attended among others by Senator Parvaiz Rashid, Senator Abdul Ghafar Qureshi, Senator Professor Ibrahim Khan and Senator Abdul Rashid
