ISLAMABD The Pakistan Cricket Team got off to a flying start in the first T/20 played Monday evening against Australia in Birmingham. The whole team played like a unit, and although the top order fail to deliver the goods for Pakistan yet Umar Akmal once again came to the rescue of the team. His knock oft 64 runs from 31 deliveries was absolutely treat to watch. He was ably supported by Kamran Akmal (23) and Shoaib Malik (21). Kamran Akmal was unlucky as he was needlessly run out. Shoaib Malik was playing some good shots before he edged a Nannes bowl to wicket keeper who took it but TV replays were not clear whether the catch was clearly taken or not. Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq Salman Butt and Shahzaib Hasan failed to produce magic. Afridi as it was clearly seen is improving in his captaincy day by day. He was flopped in batting but with his superb bowling and breath-taking fielding especially the two catches which he took were a turning point of the match. He used all the bowlers very intelligently. Muhammad Aamir was pick of the bowlers, as he took three for 27 in allotted quota of four overs. Saeed Ajmal and Umer Gul also chipped in with 2 and 3 wickets respectively. Saeed Ajmal has proved once again that he is by far the best off-spin and a match winner by all means. Umer Gul was a treat to watch bowling in full rhythm. He was out from the international cricket for a while yet he was dead accurate. Mike Hassey who single handedly guided Australia to victory in the recently concluded World T/20 world cup was completely deceived by a Umer Guls Yorker. The ground fielding of the team has also witnessed a sharp improvement. The body language of the players was positive. The team needs to adopt same attitude in the coming matches too. This is just a beginning the tour is a very difficult one. The bowling line of the team is strong and with the inclusion of Umer Gul it is further enhanced. Shoaib Akhtar looks completely out of sorts. He is without a shadow of dough still a world class bowler he needs more time to adjust, which he is fully capable of if he continues to under perform then he should be given a break and be replaced by Muhammad Asif. The current England tour is difficult one the team not only has to play against a high-flying England but they also have played their home series against Australia in England. Any leniency may result in complete disaster. Immediate decision must be taken in the best interest of the team if someone is under performing he should be replaced without wasting time. Pakistan have got the psychological edge over the Australians by beating them after 13 unsuccessful attempts, the team must carry on with the momentum.
