KARACHI - Byco, a petroleum company, has promised to promote golf in Sindh in collaboration with Sindh Golf Association which has the mandate to nurture the sport in the province. Speaking at Karachi Gymkhana at a media briefing held two days before the start of Byco 13th Sindh Open, which tees off from July 8 at the Arabian Sea Country Club, the brand manager of Byco Farha Khan said that her company was sponsoring Sindh Open for the second time consecutively and in future it would continue to promote the game. Byco has chalked out a plan under which it would continue to carry out its social responsibilities, she added. Arif Ali Khan Abbasi and senior vice president SGA Asad IA Khan, ASCC captain Arshad IA Khan, captain KGC Pervez Ansari, Ashraf Ghouri, treasurer SGA and Khalid Anwar of KGA were also present on the occasion. Abbasi said role of sponsors in promoting games and other social activities was appreciable. He said that no sports could prosper without finances and it were sponsors who provide the funds to both the players and the event and thanked Byco for its continued commitment. Asad mainly dealt with the technical points of the championship which will be a three-day event. Events that would be contested from Friday to Sunday are professional and amateur to be played over 54 holes while senior professionals and amateurs consisting of 36 holes. Amateurs with 12 handicaps will be eligible to play. He said the prize purse for professional category was Rs one million while the prize money for senior professionals have been raised to Rs 200,000 from last year's Rs 100,000. He said the SGA has decided to award Rs. 100,000 for hole in one feat on any of the 18 holes of the ASCC. He hoped that the prize money for Sindh Open may be increased in future. He said Shabbir Iqbal would defend his title in the championship. All the top professionals of the country would appear in the championship. Sufian Dhaduk would defend his amateur title and Ghulam Nabi senior professional title.
