LAHORE - The Judicial Commission investigating the murder of senior journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad here on Wednesday decided to call upon senior journalists of the country so that they share information about the murder incident with the members of the commission. The in-camera second meeting of the commission was held at Supreme Court Lahore Registry under the chair of Justice Mian Saqib Nisar of the apex court. Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Agha Rafique Ahmad Khan, Punjab and Islamabad inspectors general of police Javed Iqbal and Binyamin, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists President Pervez Shaukat attended the meeting being members of the commission. Federal Secretary Information Taimur Azmat Usman, being secretary of the judicial commission, also joined the meeting which lasted about four hours. After the meeting, Taimur Azmat and Shaukat Pervez briefly informed the media persons about the commission proceedings. They said the commission had earlier sought appearance of the deceaseds relatives, friends and public at large by issuing newspaper advertisements in this respect, so that they share information, if they have any, with the commission about the murder of Saleem but the response has been very disappointing. Therefore, they said, the commission has now decided to call upon senior journalists of the country to make use of the information they had about the murder of Shahzad. They said the commission finalised 16 names of the journalists and others including Talat Hussain, Hamid Mir, AR Shamsi, Zahid Hussain, Imtiaz Alam, Umar Cheema, Najam Sethi, Matiullah Jan, Ms Naseem Zehra, Zafar Sheikh and Ali Dayan of Human Rights Watch. The commission also decided to seek production of the report on the basis of which the FIR of Saleem murder was registered, in next proceedings which is due on July 9 in Islamabad. They said the Ministry of Interior and Federal Investigation Agency had also been directed to furnish complete record of e-mail accounts and cellular phones used by the deceased journalist.
