ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani phoned Afghanistans President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday and expressed Pakistans serious concern over the Afghan militants incursion into the Pakistani side of the border. The prime minister conveyed to President Karzai that the Pakistani Army was exercising utmost restraint despite repeated cross-border incursions by the extremists from the Afghan side into the Pakistani territory. The situation, he added, needs to be resolved quickly. Pakistan has requested the Isaf to convene immediate meeting for border coordination between regional commanders, the prime minister added. He requested President Karzai to ask Isaf and Afghan military commanders to join Pakistans efforts to address the situation created by the militants and avoid any loss of life of innocents. Karzai expressed his readiness to send Isaf and Afghan commanders for a meeting to resolve the issue. He averred that the two countries should remain in touch with each other and jointly frustrate the evil designs of the militants. He said that it was a trap of the extremists, which could be thwarted through close coordination and understanding.
