Having the latest gadget is seen as the new status symbol despite the recession, a survey has said. The most up-to-date electrical gadgets and appliances are viewed as status symbols by two thirds of those questioned by the British Heart Foundation furniture and electrical stores. Nearly a third of those polled said they upgrade their gadgets because they want the newest products, while one in 10 said they do so simply because of boredom. However, more than half of those who responded admitted they have at least one electrical item at home that they never use. The British Heart Foundation is appealing for people to donate their unused, but working, gadgets to resell in their furniture and electrical stores to raise money for the charity. ON
