Safety tools stressed for Wapda lines staff

LAHORE Speakers at a conference have stressed upon ensuring safe and healthy working conditions to the Wapda line staff to prevent accidents which not only causes loss to their families but also to the institutions. Addressing a conference organised by Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union at Bakhtiar Labour Hall on Wednesday to commemorate Safety Day, Khursheed Ahmed, Malik Noor Muhammad, Sajjad Hussain Shah, Zahid Hussain, Rana Akram and Osama Tariq said that over 120 line staff either lost their lives or disabled permanently every year due to poor standard of safety equipment and lack of observance of precautionary measures. They urged the government to provide free education and employment to the dependents of line staff who lost their lives while performing duties. They also urged the government to give at least Rs 2 million as compensation to the aggrieved families.
