PM defends decision

Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that the decision to reopen Ground Lines of Communications allowing the Nato supplies to pass through Pakistan was taken in the best national interest and to uphold the supremacy of the Parliament. He was of the view that stable Afghanistan was linked to stability and peace in Pakistan. He shared these views with a delegation of top leaders of the PML-Q, which fully supported the decision. Raja Ashraf candidly said that prolonging the deadlock over the supplies would have adversely affected Pakistan’s relations with Nato member states and annoyed friends like Turkey, Qatar and the UAE.The issue of US apology has been put to rest after Secretary of State Clinton statement. This is a positive step and yes, matters must move forward. But just how have we furthered our national interest for a layman to understand? By ignoring most of the recommendations passed by Parliament, and effectively labelling it powerless? The wait for five months to extract not just an apology, but to find that the words are such that we seen to also have implicated ourselves in them? The lollipop of 'national honours' that has been offered to make sense of no transit fee being charged? You'll have to do better than that, Prime Minister.
