khyber agency - Three children were killed and twelve others sustained injuries when a pick-up plunged into a deep ravine on Saturday here at the Ali Masjid area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency.

Sources said that the ill-fated vehicle (T-1892) was on its way to Bazaar Zekha Khel, Tirah valley from Jamrud, when negotiating a dangerous turn at the Ghalanai area, the driver lost control over steering and fell into a deep ravine. As a result, three children aging 9 to 13 were killed on the spot and 12 others injured, they added.

Soon after the incident, residents of the area rushed to the spot and shifted the injured, including four women, seven kids and a man, to Jamrud Hospital from where eleven injured were referred to Peshawar hospital. Sources said that condition of one person identified as Noor Wali was stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, the Khasadar force foiled a bid of smuggling by recovering hashish from a car on Saturday.

The sources said that during routine duty at Wazirdand, a Peshwar bound (AJK-B-1897) was signaled to stop for checking on the Pak-Afghan road. However, sensing risk the driver managed to flee from the scene. During search 14kg hashish was recovered from the hidden cavities of the vehicle. The car was impounded and case was registered in this regard.
