KARACHI - Lyari remained tense on Saturday as an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead after a lull of some 12 hours in Kharader area while seven others were also killed in various violent incidents.

According to details, law-enforcement agencies claimed that they have controlled the troubled areas of Lyari and established a number of new check posts there.

It is worth mentioning here that gun battle was continued during the whole week and at least dozen people, including women and children were killed while scores of other were wounded.

In the midnight, the exchange of fire was suspended between Lyari gangsters and Kutchi Rabita Council. Some gunmen riding a motorbike shot dead a worker of MQM in Kharader area. Kashif Ahmed, 28, was running a mobile phone shop in Irani Market, Kharader. A passerby Sadiq was also wounded. Assailants managed to flee while victims were rushed to Civil Hospital, Karachi where doctors pronounced the death of Kashif and admitted Sadiq for treatment.

In another incident of firing in Old City areas, three people were wounded in Lakhani Market within the jurisdiction of Nabi Bux police station. Police said some armed motorcyclists sprayed bullets on Saqib Khan, Zaid Khan and Abdul Rahim who were shifted to Civil Hospital. Following the incident, commercial and non-commercial activities were again suspended in Old city areas.

Maripur Police found a dead body of a man from Hawksbay Road. The body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy. Another body was found from Lasbaila Bridge within the jurisdiction of Rizvia police station. Police shifted the body to morgue after autopsy where it was identified as Abdul Azeem, resident of Pak Colony.

On the other side, police managed to arrest a man who was trying to escape after killing his own accomplice at Kati Pahari, Qasba Colony within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station.

Police said that Iqbal alias Bala shot dead his accomplice Saifullah over some petty issue. Police shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

In the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth Police, some gunmen shot dead two men near New Sabzimandi. Police said that Enayatullah and Fazal Hudood were affiliated with Al-Khidmat foundation of Jamat-e-Islami. Police said they were hailed from Deer, KPK. They came here every year for collection of donation.

A woman and her nephew shot dead at Lalabad, Landhi area. Police said Dil Naz and Imran, both factory workers, were targeted at a bus stop by one Saif. Police said that accused person sought to marry a woman and reached there to kill her when her family refused the proposal. Police registered a case against Saif on the complaint of victims family.

A worker of MQM Wahab Bandhani, 50, was shot dead near Hawksbay beach. Police said that the victim was going there for picnic along with his family when some pillion riders shot him thrice and fled. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to heirs.

One Khursheed Khan, 40, was gunned down near Chaghi Hotel, Orangi Town. Police said that the victim was going on a road when unidentified armed men shot in his head and escaped. Police shifted the victim to ASH where doctor pronounced his death.

Two cops Sub-Inspector Usman and Constable Habibullah sustained bullet injuries during armed clash between two groups at Usmanabad area. Police said that the clash started between the two rival groups, including Lyari gangsters and workers of a political party. After getting information, heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot and control the situation.
