BAHAWALPUR-Subsidy of Rs3.25 billion on essential food items will be given by the Punjab government during Ramazan, said PML-N leader and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif while visiting a model bazaar.He said that the administration should play its role in eliminating hoarding and profiteering especially during the holy month. Availability of necessary food item, their quality and quantity be strictly monitored so that the general public could get immediate relief, he said. It is a challenge for the government to control the price hike during the month, he noted.He said that the party office bearers and the district administration should work together to make such bazaars and Ramazan Dastarkhawan a success. He visited several stalls and utility stores established in the model bazaar. Hamza Shahbaz directed DCO Bahawalpur on the demand of stall owners to consider lowering the rent of the stalls.CRIMES IN JUNE: A total of 1,158 cases were registered in June in district Bahawalpur while the police arrested 1,600 suspects. During a drive against water theft, 299 were arrested and registered 132 cases.During June, police arrested 39 wanted criminals category A and 151 category B criminals. Taking action against drug dealers, Bahawalpur police recovered 13.215 kg Charas, 1.265 kg heroine, 77Kg hashish, 1,500 liter liquor, 5 active furnace and arrested 20 people. Eighty cases were registered regarding illegal weapons. Police recovered 3 carbines, 52 pistol, 10 revolver, 8 guns, 3 knives and 4 rifles. One gang was busted and police arrested its 7 gang members and recovered 1.5 million rupees.FAISALABAD RAMAZAN BAZAARS: Under Punjab Govt. Ramazan Package, as many as 1,188,320 bags of flour including 490,481 bags of 10 kg and 497,840 of 20 kg weight would be sold in the district at subsidised rates during the holy month of Ramazan, said an official. Amanaullah said that the bags of 10 kg weight would be supplied at 25 special Ramazan bazaars in the district whereas bags 20 kg weight would be supplied in open market for sale. He said that 10 kg bag of flour would be sold on subsidized rate of Rs315 while the subsidised price of 20 kg bag of flour has been fixed Rs670. He said that the sale of subsidised flour under Ramazan Package was being started today (Sunday) in special Ramazan bazars and the supply of 20 kg bags would be started in open market from (Monday 8th July). He maintained that 230,016 bags of flour of 10kg would be supplied in Ramazan bazars daily whereas 300,072 bags of 20 kg would be supplied in open market daily in first 10 days and 12,320 bags would be provided daily during the remaining days. He said that DCO Najam Ahmad Shah had constituted special monitoring teams for ensuring smooth and transparent distribution of subsidized flour during the holy month. MANDI BAHAUDDIN BAZAARS: In a meeting with traders at his office, District Coordination Officer Imtiaz Niazi said that during Ramazan, four bazaars would be set up each at Mandi Bahauddin, Phalia, Malakwal and Gojra to provide quality items at subsidised rates for the people.At these bazaars, rates would be lower than those at the market, he said. Tehsil municipal administrators, assistant commissioners, labour and agriculture officer also attended the meeting. He directed traders to display approved rate lists of all the items in bold letters at each stall. He directed the labour officer to ensure checking of weight and scales on daily basis.  The agriculture officer was asked to ensure quality and freshness of vegetables and fruit at bazaars. Sanitation condition should also be good by maintaining high standard of cleanliness. He urged the traders not to resort to profiteering, saying that Ramazan is a month of sacrifice and earning of blessing of God. He warned of strict action against all violators found guilty of overcharging.
