PESHAWAR - Journalists fraternity on Saturday protested and blocked main Sher Shah Suri road for all kinds of vehicular traffic against manhandling of media persons by doctors and paramedics of the Khyber Teaching Hospital and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident. The protesting journalists were led by Peshawar Press Club President Nasir Hussain and General Secretary Yousaf Ali. They decried use of force against reporters who were performing their duties.

The demonstrating media persons wearing black armbands chanted slogans against highhandedness of KTH doctors and apathy of provincial government. They also chanted slogans against PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Addressing the protesters, PPC General Secretary Yousaf Ali rejected the committee announced by Health Minister Shuakat Yousafazi to probe the incident. They said that constituting an inquiry committee of the same people who tortured reporters was a joke with journalists.

Yousaf also informed that journalist organisations have decided that no coverage would be given to Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) and Young Doctors Association (YDA) and their activities and their entry to press club has also been banned. He also said that entry of the provincial health minister to PPC building has also been banned.

Nasir Hussain said that it was an attack on freedom of press. He also said that journalists would protest for three days and in next stage they would protest outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister House. He regretted that despite attack on journalists and taking them hostage for over seven hours, no person of authority has contacted the media persons.
