SIALKOT-The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry president said that the Sialkot exports have jumped to US$ 1.4 billion from US$ 1.2 billion annually despite the unavoidable circumstances including the worst energy crisis.He was addressing a meeting of the Sialkot business community held at the auditorium of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Sheikh Abdul Majid urged the government to introduce skill development programme for Sialkot’s export-oriented industries  with a view to promote the country's value added sector, besides, exploring and capturing the new international markets of exports under the SCCI’s very effective and positive strategy.The heads and representatives of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association Sialkot and Markazi Anjuman Tajraan also attended the meeting.District Coordination Officer Iftikhar Ali Sahu said  that the exporters of Sialkot are the “Roaming Ambassadors of Pakistan”, who travel all around the world to fetch business. With their personal efforts, the export earnings of Sialkot stand at US $ 1.4 billion annually. He revealed that the export-oriented Sialkot city has successfully followed the examples of Japan, Germany, Korea, Taiwan and other countries in development of SME culture in Sialkot, as the Sialkot based SMEs have been producing only exportable items and enjoy special status in the international market for its products.The DCO narrated that SCCI has been playing its pivotal role in strengthening and boosting the country's national economy.On the other side, a total of 1.6 percent decline has been witnessed in overall exports of surgical instruments from Sialkot during the running fiscal year, as compared to the last fiscal year, said Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan Chairman Muhammad Bilal Tanvir.Talking to the media at his office, he said that the total surgical exports were US $ 279 million from Sialkot in fiscal year 2011-12 and these exports were US$ 274 million during the fiscal year 2012-13, showing US$ 5 million (1.6 percent) decline in surgical exports from Sialkot.He revealed that despite the prolonged unbearable energy crisis and other unavoidable circumstances, the surgical exporters of Sialkot were striving to keep the graph of surgical exports up, as they had reduced their profit margins to give a boost to surgical exports from Sialkot. He added that the several exporters from Sialkot were exporting the surgical instruments to various foreign destinations even on the 'no-profit and no-loss basis' in a bid to remain competitive in the international trade markets.PADDY CROPS: The paddy crops would be at 377,000 acres of land during this season in Sialkot district, a hub of producing the best quality bumper paddy yield. District Officer (Agriculture) Sialkot Muhammad Aslam told the newsmen here that the Sialkot agriculture department would also start a special training programme for the paddy growers and farmers in as many as 1,442 villages of Sialkot district in a bid to educate the famers about the usage of new farm technologies, in this regard. He said this week-long training will begin from July 20, 2013 in Sialkot district here. RECOVERY: Zarai Taraqiyati Bank has recovered Rs1.18 billion arrears from its defaulters till June 2013 during a special recovery campaign launched against the defaulters in Sialkot district. Zonal Manager Operation Muhammad Sibtain told the newsmen at his office here that the recovery ratio was 86.11 percent, as the rest arrears of Rs. 189.4 million would also be recovered soon from the defaulters, in this regard.
