KARACHI - “The grass root physicians, who structure the basis of our health care system, are required to have the most recent knowledge on the prevention and management of diabetes as Pakistan is facing a rapidly growing epidemic of diabetes. Family physicians can play a significant role in the prevention and effective management of this disease.” These views were expressed by the health experts, while delivering lectures on diabetes with particular reference to the holy month of Ramadan. The ceremony was organised by the the Baqai Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (BIDE) in collaboration with the Merck at a local hotel.

BIDE Director Prof Abdul Basit updated the audience on the recent trends in the management of type 2 diabetes. While BIDE Deputy Director Prof Yakoob Ahmedani highlighted the topic of ‘Safe Fasting with Diabetes during Ramadan’. A large number of family physicians, diabetologists and other medical professionals attended the program. They said, “The holy month of Ramadan is approaching and every Muslim has intense desire to fast during this month and collect its holy blessings.”
