Hundreds of enraged protestors of Ahmadabad Saturday took to streets and blocked the Indus Highway in protest against suspension of power in the area.

The protestors led by former councilor Riaz Ahmad, Wahid Iqbal and Usman Khan blocked the Indus highway at Ahmadabd Chowk for all kinds of traffic for half an hour to protest against the suspension of power to hundreds villages for the last six days.

They informed that six days ago heavy rain and thunderstorm uprooted power pylons of seven feeders of Tehsil Takht-e-Nusrati and only two could be restored by the Pesco officials, Karak so far and five feeders were still out of order which plunged hundreds of localities into darkness. They said that due to power breakdown acute shortage of drinking water was surfaced in the area.  On the occasion, police baton charged the protestors also arrested three persons identified as Wahid Iqbal, Amanullah and Umer Saeed.

Elders of Ahmadabad and other areas strongly resented the police action against unarmed protestors and held a meeting soon after the incident.  They said that peaceful protest for resolution of their demands was the democratic right of citizen and ASI Hakeem Khan should be held responsible for the police brutal action. They resolved to fight for their rights and the protest would be stretched to entire district.

The elders decided that the police act would be taken up at high forum and demanded the arrested protestors should be released forthwith.
