FAISALABAD-Former President and senior leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has claimed that despite former President Pervez Musharraf facing treason charges, he will fly abroad sooner or later.
Talking to media persons in Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad on Monday, Yousaf Raza said the government should try the former dictator in high treason under Article VI from Oct 12, 1999.
He rubbished the impression of threats to democracy under the prevailing circumstances, saying long or short marches in the country could not harm the democracy as its roots are strong enough to resist against any conspiracy.
The PPP leader said that in democratic rule peaceful protests for achievement of basic rights and to pinpoint the defects of the government was right of every political party.
Gilani said that democratic governments should tackle every kind of situation with wisdom and added that it seems that Lahore Model Town tragedy was outcome of haste and unwarranted fear of the ruling elite class.
He urged all the stakeholders to accept the verdict of judicial commission in Model Town tragedy with open heart.
