RAWALPINDI - The customs, anti-smuggling and taxation court on Monday fixed date (July 13) for framing charges against famous model, actress and singer Ayyan Ali in money smuggling case after investigators of Pakistan Customs concluded their arguments.

Moreover, the court also set date (July 11) to resume hearing in a petition filed by Pakistan Customs seeking registration of fresh money laundering case against Ayyan. The court also extended the judicial remand of the accused.

According to details, the investigators of Pakistan Customs produced Ayyan Ali before Special Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan for indicting her. However, the court could not frame charges against the accused, extended her remand and fixed date of July 13 for framing charges against the accused.

Earlier, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, the counsel for Ayyan, presented her written statement before the judge and later read it in the court. In the statement, Ayyan stated that she has no link with any political personality in the country. She stated that she was going to file a case against those who were involved in her character assassination. She cautioned the people to avoid linking her with any political personality. She mentioned that Pakistan was her country and she would not flee the country after bail. She said that she respected the courts while a baseless propaganda campaign was being run against her, which was also a violation of human rights. “My rights are being usurped,” she stated. The judge returned the statement to the lawyer of Ayyan and directed him to follow the court rules to get the statement of his client recorded before the court. On the other hand, the court also adjourned till July 11 the hearing in an application filed by Pakistan Customs seeking to file fresh money laundering case against Ayyan.

Raja Hafiz, the father of Ayyan Ali, was also present in the courtroom but Ayyan refused to meet her after which the court ordered Raja Hafiz to go out of the courtroom.

After the hearing, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, while talking to media persons, said that it seemed there was no other case in the country except Ayyan money smuggling case. He said that a well-cooked propaganda was being run against Ayyan. Khosa said that he would file bail petition of his client before the Supreme Court and he was sure that apex court would grant bail to his client before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Sardar Ishaq, another lawyer of Ayyan, when contacted, said that Khosa wanted to shift the case from Rawalpindi to Lahore.

Earlier, Ayyan was brought in an armoured personnel vehicle to court amid tight security to avoid any untoward incident.
