Gov seeks babus’ role for change

LAHORE - Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana has said that People should be the central part and core element of every public policy and the civil officers should become agent of change rather than becoming the forces of status quo.
“People of Pakistan deserve good governance and speedy service delivery. Things cannot remain “business as usual”. This must change. Civil Services must change also”, he observed while addressing to the participants at certificate award ceremony of 102nd National Management Course and 17th Senior Management Course” at National Management College, Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Lahore, here Monday.
The governor said that civil officers must play their pivotal role in formulating public friendly policies and implementing them in a letter and spirit. Governor Punjab urged the civil servants that they should come forward in bringing real social change by making themselves the true servants of people.
“It is need of the hour that we should reform and civil service reformation process has to be predicated on performance and service delivery. We should also be mindful of the problems being faced by the Government and the people of Pakistan”, he affirned.
Governor Punjab said that people of Pakistan expected responsive systems for redressal of their problems and issues. “Good governance relates to the manner in which authority is exercised in the management of country’s resources.

It links growth with poverty reduction and curbing inequality”, rajwana maintained, adding that present government had provided the direction and policy framework and the civil services should execute and deliver better services to the satisfaction of the people of Pakistan
The governor said that Pakistan was faced with multiple challenges and is responding resolutely to meet them. The biggest challenge faced by Pakistan is terrorism. He said that government had demonstrated strong political will to eliminate it once for all and now there is no going back on this. “The National Action Plan has started yielding positive results. The operation by our Armed Forces is re-establishing the writ of the State”, he said.
Rajwana viewed that Pakistan’s economy was now looking up with economic growth expected to be 5% next year and followed by even higher levels of growth. He said that focus was how to improve governance so that fruits of good governance may reach to the people of Pakistan. He said that all these challenges and follow up actions demanded dedicated commitment by the Civil Servants at the Federal and Provincial level to ensure effective governance for the benefit of people of Pakistan.
The governor further stated that Pakistan had the capacity to become a great and prosperous country. We are a nation of more than 180 million people whose capabilities are second to none.
Earlier, Rector, National Management College, Ismail Qureshi was also address the officers and throws light on the aims and objective of the training.
