Pakistan Davis Cup team off to Jakarta

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan No 1 tennis player Aqeel Khan along with Abid Ali Akbar and non-playing captain Davis Cupper Hameedul Haq Monday left for Jakarta, Indonesia to take part in the Asia-Oceania Group-II semifinals.
Talking to The Nation, Aqeel said: “The tie will commence from July 14 to 16. Samir Iftikhar will join the team Wednesday, while Aisam will also reach there soon.” To a query regarding Pakistan chances in Davis Cup, Aqeel replied: “Frankly speaking, we have quite bright chances of winning this particular semifinal as the hosts have one good player, while we are blessed we have services of Aisam, along with me while Samir is also playing well and Abid Ali is also very important player for us.
“The lime share of burden of winning the tie for the country rests solely on the shoulders of Aisam and me. I am hopeful we will not disappoint the nation and return successfully,” Aqeel concluded.
