RAWALPINDI - Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Friday said that it was happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a court has sentenced a powerful politician like former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in a corruption reference.
He said the convicted Mian Nawaz Sharif should have to return to Pakistan to file an appeal with the appellate court against the sentence awarded by an accountability court in the Avenfield corruption reference. “If Nawaz Sharif prefers to stay in the UK and challenges his sentence with appellate court then it will not be in his favour,” Sheikh Rashid said this while addressing a news conference at Lal Haveli, Rawalpindi.
Sheikh Rashid, who is also contesting general elections from NA-60 and 62, said Mian Nawaz Sharif committed a great sin by attempting to alter Khatm-e-Nabuwat clause and now Allah Almighty has punished him.
He said the brave verdict of judge of accountability court has sent a clear, powerful and vibrant message across the globe that the corrupt premier of Pakistan was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for corruption.
While recalling the statement of Mian Nawaz Sharif that Sheikh Rashid would never come into assembly, he said: “Now I will attend sessions of the National Assembly as MNA but Mian Nawaz Sharif and his cronies will never see the Lower House”.
He said that another former prime minister of PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is contesting general elections 2018 despite the fact that LNG corruption reference against him is pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He alleged that Mian Nawaz Sharif made assets with the money of loot and plunder during his stay in the office of PM. Sheikh Rashid alleged Mian Nawaz Sharif took birth at Gate Number 4 of General Headquarters and was made politician by the military establishment.
He said that he is contesting general elections 2018 with election symbol of pen and inkpot and urged the public to vote for him on July 25. To a query, former MNA Sheikh Rashid replied it has become general practice that all convicts claimed that judge punished them in absentia.
