ISLAMABAD-Police have rounded up several persons on the charges of drug-peddling in an accelerated campaign against such elements to wipe out the menace of narcotics from the capital city, said SSP Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer on Tuesday.
As many as 63 persons have been arrested by police for their involvement in supplying drugs to youth in Islamabad, he said adding that police seized 46kg of Charas, 1700 grams heroin, 1147 grams Ice, 40 grams cocaine and tranquilizers from the drug peddlers, he added.
He said police, following the instructions of Inspector General of Police Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman, launched a special intelligence-based campaign across the city. He said special squads have been constituted under the leadership of Additional SP Islamabad Farhat Abbas Kazmi to get the drug peddlers.
He was of the view that supply of drugs cannot be checked completely until there is demand in the society. He said both young boys and girls are among the drug users and warned the parents to keep check on their children in this regard.
SSP Operations said that during the past two weeks, 63 persons involved in supplying drugs to youth were arrested. Mustafa Tanweer said that few foreigners are also among the accused who were caught red-handed. The SSP said that the drug suppliers contact the suppliers on phone and the former give supply to the users at the desired location.
He claimed that the police have broken the network of the suppliers. He asked the citizens to help police identify the people involved in drug business so that the society could get rid of the menace.
