LAHORE - The office bearers of the Mobile Phone Association Ferozepur Road and other local residents staged a protest demonstration against the Kot Lakhpat police for thrashing and detaining innocent shopkeepers in the police lock up illegally. While agitating against the police attitude, the protestors blocked the road for hours and appealed to the chief minister and inspector general police Punjab to take serious notice of the highhandedness of the Kot Lakhpat police. They also chanted slogans against the local police saying that some policemen were misusing their offices to foil the attempts of the higher police authorities to change 'thana culture. The protestors said two shopkeepers of Al-Fatah Market had a scuffle over a minor issue. To ensure reconciliation, the office bearers of the Mobile Phone Association started efforts between the shopkeepers. But after its failure, they called the police, which took them to the Kot Lakhpat Police Station. The policemen also asked the traders representatives and other shopkeepers to reach the police station. When they protested against the rough attitude, he thrashed the visitors in the presence of scores of other people and locked four shopkeepers in the police lock up in a very humiliating manner, they added. Soon afterwards, the DSP concerned and other senior police officers reached the site and released the innocent shopkeepers from the lock up.
