After major terrorist events such as the recent attacks on Ahmedi places of worship and the hospital in Lahore, it is comforting to know that the police is being criticized by the civil society and media. On the other hand, the heads of intelligence agencies, who gobble up huge budgets, with little to account for, and equal responsibility for curtailing terrorist activities, hide in their plush air-conditioned offices and continue to remain unaccountable by and large. I will recommend that in future the heads of intelligence agencies should also come live on the national media and explain their continued failures in combating terrorism to infuriated journalists.
