Fehmida directs proper relief measures in Thatta, Badin

ISLAMABAD - Speaker National Assembly, Dr Fehmida Mirza, has asked National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and District Administration of the coastal districts of Badin and Thatta to ensure proper arrangements in the relief camps for the people evacuated from costal belt because of the cyclone Phet. She said that the costal areas of Badin and Thatta were the most vulnerable to the impending cyclone, which was likely to inflict grave impact on the people, livestock, orchards and crops. She said that people should be timely shifted to safer areas to minimise the losses likely to be caused by the cyclone and expected rain flood and later rehabilitated and compensated for their losses. The speaker said that the residents of the costal areas should be facilitated and provided food and other necessities of daily use. She asked the District administration to ensure provision of medical care and sanitation since camps in such situations are more prone to contagious diseases. She also directed the district administration to liaise with metrological departments, armed forces personnel and maritime security agency so that the loss to life and property could be minimized in case of any eventuality. She also asked them to involve philanthropic community in the governments relief and rehabilitation efforts.
