LAHORE - A man was killed and 15 others sustained injuries when a speeding wagon hit a motorcycle rickshaw near Azadi Chowk in Lorri Adda police limits here on Sunday morning. The deceased was later identified as Akbar. As per details, a speeding Toyota wagon (LRJ-5455) was on its way to Grass Mandi when it reached near Yadgar Chowk it collided with a motorcycle rickshaw (LEV-2781), police sources said. Six people including Sumandar Khan, 40, M Azeem, 18, Billo, 12, Qamar, 21, Akbar, 35 and Abdul Ghafoor, 50, were riding on rickshaw while nine people were onboard on the wagon. The injured include Hanif, 60, Roshan, 35, Adil, 45, Sarwar and Noor Nabi. Rescue 1122, Edhi and police teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital where the doctors pronounced Akbar dead while the condition of the rickshaw driver was critical. Police investigators said most of the passengers of wagon were labourers. crushed to death A speedings bus of a local company crushed to death a 35-year-old woman and severely wounded her son in Kot Lkhpat police precincts here on Sunday. The deceased woman, Sharifaan Bibi, was a resident of Javaid Colony in Nishtar Town police area. Police investigators said the victim woman along with her son Ismail were on their way to a workplace on a motorbike when all of a sudden a speeding bus hit them on the road near Chungi Amarsidhu area at about 10:00 am. According to police, the woman succumbed to her injuries on the spot while her son was badly wounded and was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition was critical. Later, relatives of the victims along with locals of the area gathered on the crime scene and staged a massive protest demonstration against the local bus company and the driver of the vehicle. They blocked the road and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Police dispersed the protesters after giving them assurance that the accused would be arrested soon. A case has also been registered in this regard.
