ISLAMABAD The controversy over handing over the services of Secretary Narcotics Division Tariq Khosa to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for investigations into the Bank of Punjab scam deepens with people from Ministry of Law and Justice are trying to put the matter in limbo while the Prime Minister and his team are of the view that the notification in this regard should be issued to avoid a tussle between the institutions. Sources in the coalition Government informed that there was a clear divide in the Pakistan Peoples Party over the issue with the legal wizards sitting in Presidency and the Ministry of Law and Justice were opposing the move while Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and some of his close confederates were of the view that Government should avoid further tussle with the superior judiciary and notification for handing over the services of Tariq Khosa to NAB should be made in compliance with the court orders. A couple of weeks back while hearing the Bank of Punjab case the Supreme Court of Pakistan passed the orders that the services of Tariq Khosa should be hired for investigation into this complex case, as the person - Khosa - having vast experience of investigation into such type of cases was also aware of this particular case, as he had been handling it as Director General FIA. In the light of the apex courts direction, the Chairman NAB had immediately written a letter to the Establishment Division seeking the services of Khosa in this connection. The sources informed that the notification was put in limbo on the direction of certain influential elements in the Government in defiance of the apex courts order and in case the apex court took notice of the delay, the Government would present some lame excuses for this non-compliance. The sources informed that Prime Minister Gilani and his team were in favour of compliance with the court orders to avoid uncalled-for tussle with the apex judiciary and in this connection the Prime Minister had already held a detailed meeting with President Zardari. The sources aware of the developments taking place on this front informed TheNation that Prime Minister Gilani would likely prevail and the notification for handing over the services of Khosa would be made in the next few days. These sources further informed that Khosa would keep the charge of his current assignment and would assist Chairman NAB in the investigation of Bank of Punjab scandal wherein loss of billions of rupees was caused to the national exchequer.
