A car plunged into a drain in the Harbanspura area on Thursday, police said. The car driver was rescued after hectic efforts and he was hospitalised.

According to an eyewitness, the driver had the accident after he attempted to save an elderly man who appeared on road suddenly. Meanwhile, a college student was killed by a rashly driven vehicle in the Ravi Road area, police said on Thursday.  The boy, unidentified so far, was crossing the road when a vehicle ran over him, resulting in his on-the-spot death. The police are investigating.

Dacoits hit four houses in different parts of the provincial metropolis and made off with cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth Rs2.8 million, police sources claimed on Thursday.  Five gunmen walked into the house of Muhammad Shahid in the Kot Lakhpat police area, held up the family members at gunpoint and snatched away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs700000.

Three armed bandits forced their entry into the house of Tabish in the Satu Katla police limits and escaped after collecting cash and gold ornaments worth Rs800000.
