KARACHI - Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s President Muhammad Haroon Agar has lamented that the Karachi City and its business and industrial community have been made hostage of very powerful mafia and their lives and properties along with businesses and homes have become insecure and vulnerable.

According to the statement, President KCCI Haroon Agar said it is the prime responsibility of the Government to maintain peace and provide safety and security to the citizens and to tackle with iron hands the internal and external threats/dangers to the economy.

He expressed deep concern over the recent waves of lawlessness and precarious law and order situation in Karachi and demanded the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take immediate notice and concrete safety and security measures to eradicate chances of such happenings and threats to Karachiites.

Haroon Agar demanded practical security measures with visible implementation to control the criminal activities as the recurring Extortion (bhatta), target killing, firing, kidnapping for ransom had shocked and terrified the business and industrial community compelling to think of businesses closures and secure the lives of family members.

The trading houses, industries, marriage halls, small traders are still receiving extortion chits.

President KCCI lamented that due to bad law and order situation hundreds of members of the business community were martyred, the business and industrial community was practically deprived of facilities provided worldwide and has been forced to give extortion (bhatta) along with taxes and target-killing of businesspersons increased.

The KCCI has been continuously drawing attention of the Government but received only momentary assurances and short-lived measures and the deployment of law enforcing agencies is revoked to protect the privileged class. Having great expectations with the new Government, the KCCI demands immediate measures for the protection of Karachiites and the business and industrial community of Karachi.
