LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that youngsters should come forward and join hands with the government in provision of social welfare services.
She was addressing a seminar organized by PU Department of Social Work titled “Evolution of Social Welfare India & Pakistan since 1947” at Al-Raazi Hall.
MPA and Parliamentary Secretary Khawaja Imran Nazir, Dean Faculty of Behavioral & Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakar, Principal Law College Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Maharaja Sayajirao University, India’s Prof Dr Bhavna Mehta, Incharge Chairperson Department of Social Work Bushra Naheed, seminar coordinator and Assistant Prof Sonia Omer, faculty members and a large number of students were present.
Zakia Shahnawaz said that the government was making efforts to provide maximum social welfare services to the people but the targets could be achieved with active participation of the masses especially the youth .
 MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir said that Pakistan wanted to maintain good relations with India on equal basis. He said that both countries must make efforts to provide maximum relief to their people facing various problems.
Dr Bhavna Mehta gave her perspective on social welfare in India while Dr Tahira represented Pakistan.
Milk Quality Law moot
Stakeholders meeting at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) discussed development of formal dairy sector and a minimum pasteurization law on Friday.
UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Dr Amer Ahmed co-chaired the meeting while officers from livestock department, researchers from academic institution, representatives of private sector and dairy farmers attended the meeting.
The participants gave various suggestions for development of dairy sector and minimum pasteurization law. Nutrition expert Dr Muhammad Nasir also gave a presentation on minimum pasteurization law on the occasion.
Secretary Livestock said that we will strive hard to uplift dairy sector and make this possible into well organise sector. The VC said that UVAS plays a key role to uplift Dairy sector, our UVAS milk testing service working very well. He also said that for enhance of milk production and its quality there should be needs to organised milk competition in various district.
Separately, a five-day workshop on ‘In Service Competency Enhancement Training’ concluded at the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Friday.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding session. On the occasion Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha lauded the efforts of Dr Nasim Ahmad, Dr Hafsa Zainab and all the members of Center for Educational Policy and Administration (CEPA) team. At the end of the concluding session Pasha gave away certificates among all the participants of the workshop. Dr Habibur Rehman also spoke on the occasion.
