Rape accused remanded despite victim’s refusal

RAWALPINDI  - A surprising situation emerged in the court of an area magistrate on Friday when police produced a 55-year-old rape accused for obtaining his physical remand but suddenly the girl, who accused the doctor of raping her forcefully in a hotel room, appeared before the judge and informed the court that she has settled dispute out of the court does not want to pursue the case.
The area magistrate Raja Faisal Rashid, however, sent the accused on 14-day judicial remand to Adyala Jail.
According to Sub-Inspector Hassnat Ahmed, the investigation officer of the case, a 21-year-old girl lodged a complaint that she was forcefully raped by a man namely Dr Muhammad Masood in Al-Akbar Hotel at Liaquat Bagh on April 24, 2014 after which she got pregnant. “I was called in the hotel by doctor for providing a job in his clinic. When I arrived, the doctor took me into a room and raped me forcefully,” the SI quoted the girl as saying.
Police registered a case against the accused after meeting all the legal formalities and made the victim girl to call to Dr Masood in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for settling the dispute, the SI said, adding that police arrested the accused when he reached the hospital. To a question about the fate of the case after the recent statement of the girl before court, the SI said, “The accused will not be released and he will have to face trial.”
On the other hand, four robbers in disguise of cops injured a citizen Qazi Farooq during a house robbery in Wah Saddar. Later, the robbers collected 10 tolas of gold and Rs 30,000 cash and ran away.
Similarly, two dacoits riding on bike intercepted one Saira Shafqat and snatched her purse containing Rs 20,000, two mobile phone sets and a gold bracelet.
Separately, two robbers stormed into the house of one Abdul Qadoos in area of PS Race Course, held the entire family hostage at gunpoint, and made off with mobile phones and jewellery.
Police registered separate cases and started investigation.
