LAHORE - Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has said that involvement of foreign hand in terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore could not be ruled out. He was talking to the newsmen after meeting with Ameer Jama'at-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed at Mansoora on Friday. Rehman Malik briefed the JI leadership about security situation in tribal areas and Swat peace agreement. He also gave details of investigation into attack on Sri Lankan cricket team. Rehman Malik said that there was no proof of involvement of religious extremists in attack on Sri Lankan team. He said that the government has chosen best officers for the investigation and expressed hope that the government would get report on Saturday (today). He said that JI Ameer had been informed about security situation in tribal areas, Swat peace agreement and development on investigation on terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team. He said that he has also briefed the JI leadership about dangers faced by the government. To a question regarding horse-trading in Punjab after the imposition of governor rule, he said that end of such politics would be good for the country. Stressing upon the need of reconciliation among political forces in the country, he said that the government was thankful to Asfandyar Wali and Maulana Fazlur Rehman for continuing the reconciliation process. "It is quite possible that the reconciliation process may avert long march and sit-in. All politicians should positively think about moving toward one direction", Rehman Malik said, adding that it would be difficult to save the country if the politicians failed to do so. Qazi said that the JI had decided in principle to participate in long march and sit-in and anybody's visit to Mansoora would make no difference. He said that the JI would not only take part in the long march but also mobilize other organisations for the success of the movement. He said that the nation would never accept induction of the PPP activists in judiciary. He said that situation in FATA and Swat would not change until and unless Pakistan bade farewell to the so-called war on terror. Welcoming Swat peace accord, he said that the JI would support all agreements made with the intention to restore peace in troubled areas. To a question about reconciliation between the PML-N and the PPP, he said it was not the JI but Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Asfandyar Wali. He said that the JI has asked the PML-N Quaid to be careful of the PPP allies. "It would be unfortunate if Sharif falls in the trap and wavers on his support for an independent judiciary", Qazi said. He further said the efforts of establishing a forward bloc in the PML-N showed that the talks of reconciliation were a fraud. "A single woman deserting the party cannot be described as forward bloc. The issue should not be blown out of proportion," he said. PPI adds: Police wrapped up an interim report on Friday into the deadly Sri Lankan cricket attack, after authorities said the perpetrators had been identified. The report says that "very vivid" security lapses allowed gunmen to ambush Sri Lanka's cricket team and escape. It reveals that there were no security personnel to acknowledge route clearance on the wireless. According to the report, security arrangements for Sri Lankan team were adequate, however, no similar security arrangements were taken on the route. The report also reveals that arms and explosives used in the ambush on Sri Lankan team were sophisticated and factory made while the vehicle was purchased in February.
