LAHORE - The Mall, flooded with thousands of protestors, has witnessed huge, thunderous and non-violent protest rally taken out by PML-N from Nila Gumbad to Faisal Chowk outside the Punjab Assembly on the call of PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif against the disqualification decision and imposition of Governor Rule in Punjab here on Friday. The protest rally turned into massive protest demonstration after reaching the Faisal Chowk. Under extraordinary security measures, The Mall was closed down for all sort of traffic since morning. All the link roads toward The Mall were barricaded with huge deployment of police personnel. There was almost complete shutter down throughout the City and political experts have termed the protest rally as ever-best show demonstrated by the PML-N to substantiate its massive street power since February 18. Contrary to last rallies on The Mall, protest rally did not resort to violence. From beginning to culmination atmosphere of the thoroughfare could not be polluted with the clouds of smoke flashing out of piles of burning tyers and dummies of President Asif Ali Zardari. The demonstrators avoided using vulgar abuses against PML-N's most hatred personalities including Asif Ali Zardari, Abdul Hameed Dogar and Salman Taseer. The dummies and pictures of dogs with Zardari, that were the hallmarks of the previous protest rallies, did not revisit today rally. Neither public nor private property was damaged at all under the strict directions issued by leadership. There was massive display of the PML-N banners hanging either side of the Mall. The scene of rally also remained dotted with PML-N flags, posters of Nawaz and Shahbaz and placards. Six screens installed at different places facilitated protestors, far away from the central stage, to watch and listen the address of their leaders. More than 10,000 sheets were laying down on the road besides sitting arrangements for the facilitation of the demonstrators. There was chain of loud speakers from Nila Gumbad to Faisal Chowk. Since the onset of the day, PML-N workers started pouring into the Mall. After Jumma prayer, rush of people started growing at Nila Gumbad. A number of protest caravans led by members of provincial assembly reached the venue chanting full-throated slogans against the PPP government and President Zardari. Some protesters' groups riding on vehicles joined the rally. Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa, Mian Naseer, Naseer Ahmed Bhutta, Abdul Ghafoor, Mohsin Latif, Yaseen Sohal and others MPAs and MNAs came with the people of their constituencies. PML-N Women Wing, Cultural Wing, Kissan Wing, Labour Wing, Lawyers Wing continued mixing the protest rally with the passage of time. A symbolic funeral ceremony was held to voice against the Governor Rule. People also came with the children and joined the rally. There were also proper arrangements of Sabeels (water tanks) to ensure provision of water to protestors. The popular slogans were "Nawaz Tery Janisar Beshumar Beshumar", "Zardari Tera Fesala Hum Nahi Manteh", "Zardari Sub se Barri Bemari" "Pakistan ko Bachana he" "Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif" "Sher ik waari phair" "Dekho Dekho Koon Aya Sher Aya Sher Aya." The main stage was set at the Charing Cross. Due to security reasons, more than 20 feet area around the stage was vacated and barricaded with fences and barbed wires. No one was allowed to cross the security lines. There was also arrangement of bullet-proof glass for the addresses, especially for Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif. PML-N Punjab president Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa accompanied by party office-bearers took review of each and every arrangement taking round of the venue. He also visited stage and found the arrangements satisfied. PML-N leader Humza Shahbaz, who was present at Nila Gumbad led the protest rally from Nila Gumbad under thunderous slogans. Though rally had to be taken after Jumma prayers at 3 pm but it got delayed and it started its journey after 5 pm. Later on, the rally transformed into the protest demonstration in front of the Punjab Assembly.
