A sapling a day, a nation on way

Someone has written in his book about how he visited China some years ago and was amazed by the work of that disciplined nation. Be it the traffic, bazaars, services, hospitals or schools, discipline is what you see everywhere. Our writers guide took him to a school where at 10:40 a.m., the bell rang out and all the children came out in a single file in a very disciplined manner, went to the school garden and then each sat down in front of a sapling to wash, water and clear the area. The bell rung again and they went in a single file to a tap to clean themselves. At the next ring of the bell, they went back to their class rooms, in a single file, as disciplined as they were when they came out. Quaid-e-Azam had also laid down discipline as one of the three founding principles for our nation that were Unity, Faith & Discipline. If we had followed the above motto, we would have touched the zenith of progress and prosperity. But we have ignored all human values for the sake of our greed for wealth. That is why our society today has lost the way and is in rapid decline. -FAIZ OMAR, Lahore, March 6.
