LAHORE The 119th death anniversary of great saint and Sufi poet Hazrat Maulvi Ghulam Rasool would be observed on Monday (today). In this regard, Punjabi literary circles and Punjabi departments of universities and colleges are organising seminars to pay tribute to the late poet. Government College University, Faisalabad will hold a seminar which would be presided over by Dr Shabir Ahemd Qadri while renowned poet Raiz Majeed, Prof Asghar Baloch, Ahemd Shahbaz Khawar and others would be among the speakers. A seminar at the shrine of Maulvi Sabib situated in Alampur, Indian Punjab. Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will also hold a seminar at Islamabad on Wednesday. The seminar would be presided over by Chairman PAL Fakhar Zaman. On the occasion, a book on life and services of Maulvi Sahib, written by his grandson Sahibzada Masood Ahmed would be inaugurated. The great Saint and poet Hazrat Maulvi Ghulam Rasool Alampuri was born on 29 January 1849, in village Alampur, Tehsil Dasuya, District Hushiarpur India and he died on 7 March 1892 in the age of 43 years and he was buried in graveyard of Alampur. He was a God gifted poet as he did not take any formal education; however, he received preliminary education from Maulvi Hamid Sahib of his own village and also read some books of Arabic and Persian. After this some knowledge he got from Maulvi Usman of another near by village Ghilzian. After education, Maulvi Sahib started teaching in a primary school of Meerpur. He served as a teacher for 18 years and taught free education of Medical (Tib), Urdu and Persian. His poetry is being read in millions houses. His spiritual verses created good effect on the hearts of the people. A Memorial Hall and library, in his memory, has been constructed in Govt. High School Alampur District Hoshiarpur, India. Books of Maulvi Sahib have also been included from Matric to M.A level in Pakistan. Two PhDs have also been completed on the personality and poetry of Maulvi Sahib. Most of the books of Maulvi Sahib have also been translated in the language of Gurmukhi in India. Hazrat Maulvi Ghulam Rasool Alampuri wrote various books of poetry and Nasar (prose) in Urdu, Persian, Arabic and Punjabi languages. He wrote his first book Dastan-e-Ameer Hamza at the age of fifteen. His other famous books are Rooh-ul-Tarteel, Ahsan-ul-Qasas, Masla-e-Tauheed, Seeh Harfi Huliya Shrif (Muhammad PBUH), Seeh Harfi Sassi Punnu, Chopat Nama, Pandh Nama, Maarb-ul-Khashein, Qissa Ropan and Gujjar Nama. Ahsan-ul-Qassas is considered his most famous and extraordinary work. He created an atmosphere of brotherhood, humanitarianism and tolerance in the society though his poetry and teachings. Maulvi Ghulam Rasool Alampuri was remarkable personality whose contribution has left an indelible mark on the Punjabi literature and folk-lore of both Pakistan and India.
