LAHORE – The provincial government has constituted an auction committee to outsource distribution of market committee’s daily rate list.

Secretary Market Committee Lahore Rao Nadim Asghar said that committee will held an auction to award contract to a private party for the distribution of rate list in major market committees all over the province. He said the govt has not proper mechanism to distribute lists at a huge level. He said only Lahore Market Committee has outsourced the distribution of rate list at the cost of around Rs150,000 per month which has turned to be a successful experience. He said that earlier the committee was earning just Rs 35,000 per month.

Responding to a question, he said that Market Committee of provincial capital has launched an intensive anti-encroachment drive in Badami Bagh Vegetable Market in view of smooth traffic and business in the market.

Rao Nadim said that around 250 illegal encroachers, who occupied major area of paths and platforms, have been pulled out. He said that committee decided to launch a clean up operation in Subzi Mandi and surrounding areas following the growing complaints of unauthorised erections of dealers on platforms.

He said that market committee, by intensifying its drive against encroachments, is actually working for the cause of consumers, retailers as well as wholesalers as the visitors of vegetable market find it difficult to approach vendors. He announced that committee will not tolerate any kind of leniency in this regard and anti-encroachment operation clean up will continue on regular basis.

Rao Nadim observed that around 1,000 dealers are running their trade legally while up to 250 dealers had set up their stalls without any licence. As a result, there was no way for passing through the market, as each and every corner of market was booked by encroachers, he added.
