LAHORE – Pakistan bowlers failed to put any impact against South Africa Invitation XI during the only practice match ahead of their one-day series against South Africa at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberleyon Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Invitation XI piled up 266 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs as no bowler from Pakistan camp could stop the run flow. Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq used six bowlers to complete the overs and all the bowlers conceded over five runs per over except Shaid Afridi, who completed his 10 overs conceding 43 runs and claiming one wicket. Invitation XI openers gave a flying start to their team and scored 55 runs in just 8.4 overs. Umar Gul broke the partnership in ninth over when S Cook was caught behind by Kamran Akmal for 34 runs off 35 balls including six boundaries. Fellow opener and wicket-keeper batsman Q de Kock was the main run-getter for South Africans who scored a fluent 65 runs off 73 balls hitting six boundaries and a sixer. T Bavuma scored 43 runs before he became victim of a direct throw of Younus Khan.
Shoaib Malik and Abdur Rehman took two wickets each while Junaid Khan, Gul and Afridi got one wicket each. Wahab Riaz was the only bowler who was not in the wickets and conceded 42 runs in his eight overs spell. Pakistan rested their two top one-day bowlers including Saeed Ajmal and all-rounder M Hafeez for the match. Rehman replaced Ajmal while Imran Farhat was given a practice chance as an opener in place of Hafeez.
