LAHORE - Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate will be from the PPP, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President PPP Central Punjab, while addressing a Press conference here on Friday.

He stated that the PPP had emerged as the single largest party in the Senate ,adding, with the support of ANP, MQM, PML-Q, JUI-F, FATA and independents it would be in a position to get its candidate elected for the two top slots of the Senate.

Wattoo strongly criticised the promulgation of the Presidential Ordinance in the middle of the night that deprived the FATA members to take part in the elections. It was insult of the members and the people of the FATA and they would never support the government as a reaction to political drone attack ,adding, the government was responsible for making the elections controversial, he said.

He pointed that the PPP held elections of Senate in 2012 and there was not a single voice pointing to horse-trading because the consensus among all stakeholders was reached under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Senators were elected unopposed.

He mentioned that the former President advised the government not to pursue the 22 Amendment during short span of time and instead reach out the other political parties on the basis of give and take to stall the chances of horse-trading in the elections.

The advice seemed to have fallen on the deaf ear of the government, he observed.

He said that there was no substitute to experience and the PTI gave one seat to PML-N in a silver plate by boycotting the elections in the province of Punjab.

Manzoor Wattoo also criticised the PTI leadership for unnecessarily intimidating its members and casting aspersions on their credibility.

It was beyond comprehension to understand the rational as to why PTI boycotted the elections in three provinces and decided to contest the same in KPK, he observed.

He expressed his gratitude to the PML-Q leadership for supporting the PPP candidates in the election and also those PML-N members including independents for casting their vote in favour of Nadeem Afzal Chann.

He said that the Punjab Chief Minister did not accord due respect to the Parliamentarians ,adding, only recently he started meeting them alongwith giving them development funds.

This generosity was pre-poll rigging indeed, he added.

He further said that the PPP had been pursuing the policy of reconciliation for the sake of democracy and its continuity because for party democracy was non-negotiable.

It was wrong impression that PPP was supporting the government, adding, that PPP had proved as the real Opposition Party by contesting elections of Senate in Punjab, he argued.

While responding to media questions, he said that the PPP was contesting by-elections in NA-137 and the tough contest was likely between the PPP candidate, Shah Jehan Bhatti and the PML -N candidate ,adding, that the PPP was confident to win the seat.

He said that he had completed the organisational tour of six districts and was extremely happy with the outcome because the workers were fully prepared to stage come back. Their recommendations would be duly acknowledged and incorporated in the working paper for the party, he added.
