LAHORE The finance department has delayed the transfer of the money in the Sports Board accounts allocated by the Punjab Government, which in turn has affected the holding of the Punjab Games, it was learnt Thursday. The games will be held in the second week of September provided the money is transferred. The games were to be held last month but were postponed due to the delay in the release of the money by the government but as the money has been allocated the finance department is playing its delaying tactics. Secretary Sports Punjab Ahmed Saeed Nawaz said that the time the money comes into the sports board accounts, things for the holding of the games will be finalised. He further stated that the remainder money of Rs 7.1 million after meeting all the expenses of holding of the Chief Minister Cup and Inter Schools and College Games will be spent on merit. He said that the money is most likely would be spent in the development of sports infrastructure in schools and colleges and for the purpose the selection of the institutes is being made which would be transparent. He further stated that the security situation is improving in the province and with passage it will further improve which would make feasible conditions for the holding of the sports events. He said that he wanted to hold as much competitions as are possible so that fresh talent should be tapped and groomed that is the reason stress is being given to holding competitions at school and college level, he added.
