LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued fresh notice to former PPP MNA Jamshed Dasti for May 11 on a petition challenging acceptance of his nomination papers by retuning officer for by-election in NA-178. Earlier, the notice issued by the court was not received by the respondent so the court had to issue fresh notice to him. The petitioner Asghar Khan, a candidate for same constituency, pleaded through his counsel that Dasti obtained a fake degree from a religious institution and on the basis of that he won general election in 2008. He said, later Dastis degree was challenged in the court and the matter finally landed in the Supreme Court and Dasti tendered his resignation anticipating a verdict against him. The petitioner pointed election commission announced by-election to fill the vacant seat and Dasti again submitted his nomination papers which RO accepted dismissing petitioners objections. The petitioner submitted now he was taking part in the bye-polls from the same constituency in violation of the article 62 and 63. The petitioner pleaded Dasti was disqualified to contest by-polls in terms of article 63 as he was no more a righteous or honest person. The petitioner prayed Dasti may be disqualified for life from contesting elections for cheating the election commission and the nation at large. The court also summoned the official of the concerned education board directing them to present the record in the court on the next date of hearing.
