ISLAMABAD (APP) - Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday urged the Planning Commission to ensure early execution of Public Sector Development Projects being undertaken in next budget in conformity with the governments 9-point agenda. Talking to Dr Nadeem ul Haq, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission at PM House, the Prime Minister said energy shortage is the biggest problem adversely affecting the countrys economy. The Prime Minister said priority should be accorded to the energy and water related projects, and asked the Planning Commission to liaise with the Ministry of Finance in connection with the release of funds for projects close to completion. The Prime Minister laid emphasis on the development of backward areas to bring them at par with the urban areas. He said the Planning Commission should pass instructions to the ministries to take up high priority development projects keeping in view financial constraints. He also stressed the need to rationalize the cost of the projects to avoid any waste. The PM also advised the Planning Commission to reconcile the poverty figures, and to launch the projects to generate economic activity in the country. The Deputy Chairman Planning Commission apprised the Prime Minister of the status of the PSDP of the current financial year 2009-10 and discussed proposals for the next years Public Sector Development Projects.
