ISLAMABAD A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk on Thursday adjourned the case of Ahmad Riaz Sheikh till submission of the inquiry report to be presented by the committee constituted by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The court was informed about the progress on Ahmed Riaz Sheikhs case, the FIA Additional Director General, who was arrested from the courtroom after the SC had dismissed his petition regarding his promotion. The apex court observed that the Prime Minister had formed a fact-finding committee to probe into the matter and directed the Attorney General to provide a copy of the report within seven days so that the further proceedings could be made possible in light of the report. In the last hearing, Deputy Attorney General Agha Tariq Mehmood sought more time for the implementation of the verdict. He had submitted a report, stating that an inquiry was being conducted to uncover those who were responsible for the promoting Ahmed Riaz Sheikh after the NRO verdict despite the fact that he was one of the NRO beneficiaries. Dr Basit, counsel for Ahmad Riaz Sheikh, said that his client had already completed his sentence. Justice Jawad remarked that he did not complete rather he still needed to complete his sentence. The Deputy Attorney General had informed the court that Additional Secretary of Establishment Division, Tahir Sarfraz was found guilty of promoting Ahmed Riaz to additional director general, but added that Tahir had moved an application before the PM objecting the credibility of the committee probing into the matter.
