Aptma, KCA meeting with Dastgir

KARACHI (PR): Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir held meeting with the office-bearers of APTMA and Karachi Cotton Association at their respective offices. The meetings were also attended by Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha secretary TDAP along with the TDAP senior officers.

The Minister discussed thoroughly, the issues of cotton production and exports with the office bearers of the both organizations. It was agreed that the quality of cotton seeds need to be improved and informed the KCA that the approved balance funding out of EDF for the research institute of cotton would be released soon by TDAP.

The Minister also assured the both associations office bearers that very important issue of Textile sector of sales tax refund has been taken by the Ministry of Commerce with the FBR with the aimed to resolved it.

UMT seminar on energy

LAHORE (PR): Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, said that geopolitics is all about securing long term access to reliable and efficient energy resources. He said that all over the world gas quotas are for homes while industry gets uninterrupted supply. Yet in Pakistan, we have opened up CNG stations for transport at the cost of industrial production. He said that there is a serious need for dialogue with the public on this issue.

Dr Hasan was speaking in a special seminar on energy and the environment organized by the School of Governance and Society at University of Management and Technology.

The seminar was attended by eminent experts in the field of energy production, high ranking UMT officials, faculty members, and students. Abid H K Shirwani, Director General UMT, was also present on the occasion.

Dr Abid Bodla,Member (Infrastructure), Planning and Development Board, gave the keynote address. He said that the country’s economy is being jeopardized due to the energy crisis and we are facing 2-2.5 percent loss in annual GDP due to energy shortage. The demand for electricity is increasing at the rate of 6-8 per cent per annum. Only 62 per cent population has access to electricity. In terms of power generation mix, thermal power constitutes 67 per cent and hydel 33 per cent of energy production in Pakistan.

SNGPL sponsored ECO Internship Programme

KARACHI (PR): Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and WWF Pakistan signed an agreement for the sponsorship of “ECO Internship Program 2014”. Agreement was signed by Mr. Amer Tufail, DMD (Services), SNGPL and Dr. Ejaz Ahmad Sr. Director (Corporate Relations), from WWF.

SNGPL is going to sponsor 2000 students from both Government and private Educational Institutions of class seven (7) and above, falling under SNGPL’s business network, which includes Punjab, KPK and AJK. SNGPL collaborated with WWF Pakistan and announced grant of Rs. 1.0 million to launch “ECO Internship Program-2014”.

The six session long summer Internship Program will be held for students of class seven and above. It will include special training by Environmental experts, group works, participation in different activities, interactive discussions i.e. how to protect the environment, creative green challenges, environmental documentary –making and finally an exposure visit to a place of ecological importance including highlighting its environmental hazard.
