LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed health authorities to vigorously pursue anti-polio campaign in the province ensuring every child is property vaccinated.

Presiding over a high level meeting to review anti-polio campaign here Tuesday, he said no negligence or dereliction will be tolerated in vaccinating the Punjab children.

The chief minister said that polio is a fatal disease and its eradication is necessary to safeguard future of the nation. He said vaccination of children be carried out on war footings. Shahbaz said in addition to administrative machinery, elected representatives should also take an active part in the anti-polio campaign. He directed that special arrangements be made at airports, railway stations and bus stands for administering polio drops to kids.

He said federal and the provincial governments need to work jointly to make Pakistan a polio-free country. The chief minister said that government is utilizing all available resources for ensuring a safe future for the children. He issued instructions for making effective arrangements for vaccination against polio at entry and exit points of the province and said that district coordination officers should take necessary measures for the success of anti-polio drive. He directed that special attention be paid to eradication of polio from the temporary dwellings of gypsies.

The chief minister expressed indignation over the detection of positive environmental sample in Lahore and said that curbing the causes of polio virus is also essential.
