PESHAWAR -A daylong workshop on the implementation of Seed Act in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was organised by the Directorate of Agriculture Extension FATA on Tuesday. This orientation workshop was sponsored by Livelihoods Programme Hindukush (LPH) project of a Swiss foundation’s Intercooperation (IC). They were also working in KP and extended their work to FATA in January 2011. LPH took start during May 2012 and will continue till April 2015. The FATA component of LPH was started under a separate MoU between FATA Secretariat and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) signed in January 2013.

In April 2014, the ministry of national food security and research issued a notification to the FATA Secretariat regarding implementation of the seed act in FATA region. For this purpose, the workshop was held to help the different stakeholders and officers improve the production of seeds and reduce its cost along with the fruit and vegetable seeds registration and certification.

The event was chaired by the regional programme coordinator LPH-FATA Mohsin-ul-Mulk and around 30 officers participated from different agencies of FATA.
