HAFIZABAD: The employees of Gepco Hafizabad Subdivision observed complete strike as a protest against the proposed privatisation of Wapda and distribution companies.

They also staged a protest camp where Hydro-Electric Labour Union Chairman Malik Shafqat Mehmood and Zonal Secretary Abdul Razzaq Mughal declared the proposed privatisation tantamount to economic murder of the employees and said that it was intolerable.

They called upon the employees to remain united to foil the conspiracy to privatise Wapda. They threatened that if the decision was not withdrawn, the employees would be constrained to resort to observe indefinite strike. They also raised slogans against the government for the arbitrary decision of privatising Wapda.

DEATH: Former president of District Bar Association Muhammad Afzal Chattha has died after protracted illness. He was 60. He was laid to rest in his native village Ahmadpur Chattha.

The funeral was attended by large number of lawyers, landlords and businessmen of the district. DBA President Syed Nasir Hussain Sherazi and General Secretary Amanullah expressed their condolence over the demise and paid tributes to the departed soul for his services for the betterment of the lawyers.–Saff Reporter
