iSLAMABAD - President of Maldives, Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan, was given a warm welcome on his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase Wednesday.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his cabinet received the guest. A 21-gun salute was given to the distinguished guest when he alighted from his aircraft. Two children presented bouquets to the President of Maldives.

During the visit, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will hold talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain will hold a state banquet in honour of the visiting dignitary.

Pakistan and Maldives will review all important aspects of their bilateral relations. A number of documents on cooperation in Sports, Health, Education and Illicit Drugs and Narcotics Trafficking will also be signed. Pakistan and Maldives enjoy close and cordial relations.

The relations are based on mutual trust, common faith and understanding. Both the countries have been actively cooperating with each other at regional level.

Meanwhile, PM’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz called on Maldives President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom and exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional situation and international issues of mutual interest.
